The Blue-Ribbon List

“We cannot change what we are not aware of, and once we are aware, we cannot help but change”
In December 2016, Fortune Magazine published a ‘Blue-Ribbon List’ of some 34 companies, based on a combination of seven ratings from Fortune 500, Global 500, Best Companies to Work For, Change the World List, World’s Most Admired Companies, 100 Fastest-Growing Companies and Business Person of the Year.
  • The top-10 companies were: Alphabet, Gilad Sciences, Nike, Accenture, Amazon, American Express, Apple, Bank of America, Capital One, Centene
  • In positions 11-20: Cisco, Coca-Cola, CVS Health, Facebook, General Dynamics, General Electric, General Motors, Goldman Sachs, IBM and Intel
  • In positions 21-34: J&J, Mastercard, McDonalds, Microsoft, Netflix, PepsiCo, Publix Retail, Salesforce, Starbucks, United Continental, United Technologies, USAA, Walmart and Walt Disney
We know most these companies. All have a clear strategic direction with a concise set of choices that determines what they do and what they do not do. That is what makes them so successful. The list includes a combination of long-existing corporates, and new companies established since the 1980s, such as Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, Salesforce and Starbucks. Each of them also leads in their respective competitive arenas.
“We are living in a world where we need to completely understand our environment and then look for anomalies, look for change, and focus on change”
